Plants, are the engine of life on Earth. The only link in the chain that connects our sun to our planet. Without plants, it would be impossible to transform the sun’s energy into vital energy, into chemical energy.
What plants have to teach us.
Plants are the link between the sun and the Earth
Plants are nothing like animals. Plants and Animals are the Ying and Yang of life.
Plants are immobile, animals move.
Plants produce energy, animals consume energy.
Plants are autotrophic organisms, meaning they can live off the sun’s energy; animals need to consume food.
Plants have a decentralized organization, while animals have a pyramidal organization, reflecting everything we humans have built.
Are plants our family?
We should have the same respect for them as we do for our parents, because we depend on them like a child depends on its parents.
It’s impossible to imagine life on Earth without plants, we depend on them, on the oxygen and food they produce and that we consume.
In fact, everything from the climate to our health depends on plants.
Are plants more intelligent than us?
Yes, if we define intelligence by the ability to solve problems, although the definition of intelligence is the ability to adapt.
We animals, humans, when we think we can solve a problem, are only moving away from the problem. We use movement to avoid the problem, and the problem is still there.
For plants, this action is completely impossible; they must solve the problem because they cannot move away from it.
Humans place themselves at the pinnacle of evolution simply because of their large brains, but the idea of believing themselves superior is truly dangerous. This is one of the most damaging ideas because our species, Homo sapiens, is the youngest, at around 300 000 years old, while the average lifespan of a species on the planet is 5 million years.
The question is therefore: Will we be able to reach this age?
Plants, the most important nation in the world.
Plants are completely different from us. It is impossible for us to truly understand them. To get closer to them, Stefano imagined a nation made up of plants, governed by rules and laws completely different from our own, but which could inspire us.
This constitution is proposed to all living things.
Our constitution has always placed humans at the center. It is a big mistake to isolate humans because we now know that life is based on connection, on the network. Therefore, the only possible future for our species is one in which we are able to live with all other species.
This is why Stefano imagined a constitution that would not place humans at the center, but “Life.”

The nation of plants does not recognize the rules of animal hierarchy, but it favors shared and decentralized plant democracies. This is a way of emphasizing that if we look at plants as organisms, we realize that they are organized in a very different way from that of animals, which is pyramidal, based on our brain that controls single or double organs specialized for specific functions.
We breathe with our two lungs, we see with our two eyes, etc.
For plants, you will never find a single or double organ, which is a weak point, because a small damage to one of our organs could hinder the fall of the entire organism.
Whereas plants are much stronger, thanks to their distributed and decentralized organization,
Remove 80% of the plant, it can still remain alive. Conversely, in animals, a single small damage to one of the organs and the entire organization collapses;
The idea here is to show that the organization of plants is much more modern than anything we have built based on our own organisms.
All our organizations on Earth are represented by an organizational chart where you can find the head, then specific organs that perform specific tasks.
Plants are organized completely differently. Their organization is modern, decentralized, more similar to a blockchain network, for example.
With this kind of organization, we would be much better equipped to face modernity and the future.
Mutual aid between communities of living beings.
We feel like we’re living in an arena where the law of the jungle prevails, where the strongest or the smartest will win. Some even think this is the law of evolution, when the truth lies elsewhere. Evolution works much better with collaboration than with competition.
Evolution is therefore a question of solidarity and mutual aid.
How can humanity lead us towards a more united world?
When we enter a forest, we enter a totally interconnected place where the flow of water and matter can pass from one plant to another. Plants are interconnected because it’s the best way to preserve life.
They are the most resilient beings on earth.
What future does it hold for living in harmony with plants?
Plants and humans should live together in urban centers. Currently, the amount of plants in our cities in Europe is spectacularly low. The average tree density in cities is 7%. This is far too low and unjustifiable. Therefore, plants should be everywhere around and in our buildings. Previously, we lived in a world of plants.
